Ah Spring! My favourite time of year. A time for new growth and budding opportunities! When most people think spring cleaning they think about garage sales and purging the basement. Being a money coach I wan to challenge to you think about how to spring clean your finances!
Why do you need to spring clean your finances? Well let’s think about a garden for a moment. If your garden is covered in dead plants and weeds it will make it harder to grow. Same can be said for your finances! So this year take a look at how to spring clean your finances and let me know how you do!
How to spring clean your finances.
While these are just a few ways to start, there are many more! Take what feels right for you in the moment and go with that.
- Clear the Clutter – I’ve written about it before and I’ll say it again. Clearing the clutter in your home can do worlds of good for your money situation. Receipts in piles, 15 years of taxes stuffed in a closet, old bills that “you think you might need one day” are all cluttering your finances. Old paperwork can be a time consuming and daunting task if you let it. Try grabbing a handful each day and go through it, little steps will make it easier! Now definitely don’t limit yourself to clearing paperwork. Sell some of the other crap around your house and make some money! I went through our storage area last week and just in the stuff that sold that day I made $250! How much cash do you have hiding in the basement because “you think you might need it one day!” Do yourself a favor let the paper weight go, drop the clutter for cash and you’ll be feeling fresh and ready for more abundance in your world!
- Build a Budget – It wouldn’t be an article written by me if I didn’t use the word budget at least once! Sometimes we need to revisit the budget, spruce it up a bit. Are there ways you can save, maybe you need to spend more in a particular category. The options are endless but like everything else in your money world, cleaning it up and organizing it only makes it better! PS – If you need budgeting help be sure to contact me for a free consult!
- Empty the Piggy Bank – This is one that often gets overlooked. For some reason many people feel a sense of pride having a full piggy bank. NEWSFLASH people… it isn’t earning you any interest in there! Make your money work harder for you. Take the cash out of the car, the piggy bank and purses laying around the house. Roll it up and put it against debt or in an investment that will save and earn you money!
